I’ve done a lot of zoom conference calls over the last 3 months. Some chats have been coaching / mentoring calls. Others have been friendly chats.
It’s been great! I’d forgotten how much I enjoy chatting with clever, interesting people. I didn’t always get to do that in earlier jobs.
Here are my top 5 tips from my experiences so far:
- Using appointment booking software really helps with time zones. I use https://appointlet.com, though there are loads of alternatives
- Zoom is a bit clunky, but it is reliable and it works really easily.
- Video seems very helpful and important when dealing with strangers. Being able to see people builds trust. Knowing if someone is smiling or frowning is vitally important. Once you’ve gotten to know each other … video just makes the calls friendly, but it’s not so important
- Audio has gotta be good. Zoom sometimes seems to sacrifice audio quality, rather than video, which sucks. Good news: if the audio sucks, turn off the video. Or, if you want both, do video on one device and call zoom’s number on another.
- Cats don’t understand (see the photo) … or don’t care.
