Hello from soggy Nelson, New Zealand, …
… where we’ve just wrapped up an official state of emergency - we’ve had a huge amount of rain and flooding, and some poor families have lost their houses.
Thankfully, we were fine.
ONE - Free Audiobook
If you’ve been reading Rolling Rocks Downhill, chapter by chapter, and decided to read the full version (which anyone can download for free here), but not gotten around to reading it yet, coz, you know, … life …. why not listen to it instead?
The entire audiobook (just like you’d buy on audible) is available here, inside my old podcast:
https://podnews.net/podcast/iqn2
I don’t update the podcast anymore, but you can still listen to old episodes, including the entire audiobook, and my interview with Eli Goldratt.
TWO - What Causes Floods?
My house was flooded about 11 years ago - before we bought it - along with a load of our neighbours’ houses.
There was a huge downpour in the hills behind us and - at high tide - the water racing down from the hills into the sea couldn’t make it through some of the concrete pipes, because they were too skinny, so it backed up into people’s houses.
The pipes had been fine for decades but with the huge increase in demand placed on them, they couldn’t keep up and became - just briefly - a bottleneck.
Lesson learned, our local government upgraded the pipes, and this time around we were okay.
Hope you are well,
Clarke
