Yesterday, I wrote about how snakes grow until their skin constrains them, and then they shed it to keep growing.

I love the idea that you and I also grow into our skins.

That’s how we grow up:

  • By growing into our skins.

Telling someone to “grow up” is an insult.

A verbal slap in the face.

"You're acting like a child"

Helping someone grow into their skin, on the other hand, is positive and productive.

"You're almost there ... would you like a hand?"

This tiny rewording flipped a little switch in my mind that made it easier for me to help others.

It helped me grow up!

It's a tiny but generous reframing ... and it costs nothing.

Take care, and, please leave a comment or hit reply, and have a lovely day!

P.s. I turned 55 over the weekend and I'm still figuring out what I want to do when I'm a “grown-up”. How about you?
