After sending out yesterday's email about Bottleneck Solutions, a question popped into my head:
What if you already have enough time to think? You're already productive, and you're not the bottleneck.
If you're not the bottleneck, then your job changes.
You're no longer focused on freeing up your time, so that means you have TIME TO THINK.
Imagine that!
Instead, you need to use your thinking time to ... umm ... THINK.
You're a leader, so why not focus your magnificent brain on creating a workplace where others thrive?
How do you do that? Here are a few ideas:
- Find the bottlenecks in your team. There will be one or two. Help clear their path.
- Coach your leaders to grow. Great teams are led by leaders who create more leaders. Use some of your thinking time with them ... and help them think. That’s largely what coaching is.
- Build trust. Teams thrive when they trust each other and trust you. You know how to do this already! Though, to be fair, you've been so busy in the past, you've not had time to do it. You’ve got time now So ... go do it!
Ninety percent of leading is thinking.
If you don't have time to think, you don't have time to lead.
IMHO.
